This is my first post on the blog and I thought what better way to start than with some great images from the 50 Watts website. Should anybody read this stuff other than me, it’s good to know that 50 Watts exists and that there are people out there collecting fantastic images from people I’ve never heard of – research into ideas and how to portray them (particularly within the context of a book). This blog and website is somewhere for me to organize the various strands of interest in my career as an artist, musician and teacher. I saw these images when I was preparing for a unit of work on book covers and design and I’ve never forgotten them – hence why they are my first blog post.

So lets see some images

The artist is an illustrator, E. Benyaminson and after a quick search online using different search engines I have found very little on him. There is a page on IMDB website here for Russian animations that he seems to have been involved with. Other than that it is just the images of his work. I might email the 50 Watts website and see if they can assist in finding a bit more about him. His illustrations are really human and playful – definitely of their time but in an ageless kind of way. References to schematic diagrams and the human functioning system etc.

The other angle is through the author of the book Hello, I’m Robot! from which these images are from. Stanislav Zigunenko also has come up with very little other than links to Russian secret flight missions and a comparison essay of Russian cosmonauts to US astronauts… here – quite interesting.
